Looking for a ‘real’ adventure? Dreaming of sunsets? Star gazing? Going to festivals in style? Or looking to be at one with the wild? Imagine all this whilst driving a true classic, the ‘iconic’ British Land Rover Defender!
Silver Belle is our gorgeous 3-seater, 3 sleeper Overland prepared defender 110 TD5. She has been tried and tested with road trips across mainland Europe and Africa and now she is ready for your very own overland adventure.
An easy to operate pop top opens to a double bed and the back converts into another bed, and if needed an additional tent can be supplied. The back of Silver Belle has a seating / living area and the pop top allows enough room to stand up. Back and side awnings provide plenty of shelter from the elements. You can choose to go ‘off grid’ with the leisure battery or there is an electric hook up if you want to stop over at campsites. In true Land Rover style there is a simple ‘retro’ entertainment system (dig out those CD’s) and USB ports are also available.
All rentals will be kitted out for all your camping needs from gas burners to wine glasses and books (a full kit list will be provided on booking). Insurance and break down cover are included for your complete piece of mind. All you need with the fun and simplicity of a defender.
Collection is made from junction 26 on the M5, on the Devon / Somerset border. You can leave your car safely or if you want to arrive by public transport, we can arrange to meet you and bring you to Silver Belle with adequate notice. From here you have a great opportunity to explore Dartmoor, Exmoor, Devon, Dorset and Cornwall and all they have to offer.
We will be in touch to discuss your rental and any personal requirements that you may have to get the most out of your trip. We will personally meet you and talk you through Silver Belles’ operation manual and any questions you may have about driving a Defender.
Driving a defender is an unforgettable experience, it’s not just about the destination but the journey! She loves country lanes over motorways but will comfortably cruise between 60-70mph on the motorway. Be prepared for the attention she attracts as other drivers (especially Land Rover drivers) wave and passers by chat with you about her. Sit back relax and enjoy our Silver Belle.

Silver Belle was everything I expected with regards to the driving experience and Dan had checked beforehand whether I had driven an old Landrover before, which I had. It is not built for comfort and great suspension, nor speed but I like the simplicity of a gearstick and a wheel and wind down windows.
There were several aspects of the pre trip discussion and advertisement that left me with an expectation that wasn't met and I decided to return the car after the first of 3 planned nights after a restless and uncomfortable night.
Silver Belle is advertised for 3 adults and I had conversed with Dan about the bed split as I was not keen to share a double in the back of a van with my teenage son. It turned out that the pop up roof only pops up on 2 corners leaving the sleeping space upstairs ,which is short, already so low at one end that my feet were stuck and I needed to sleep on my side. I am only 5'10" but even at a diagonal could not stretch to a straight position. The downstairs sleeping arrangement was a bench to one side of around 20 inch width and less than 6foot length. My son did not get much sleep at all.
The third seat for driving is a ride the gearbox small seat with only an abdominal belt and really if there is three the third person needs to have there legs at an angle over to the passenger side for the gearstick to be free to be moved.
Silverbelle has been driven in the desert and was fitted with additional fuel tanks that take up a considerable amount of space. There is no cooking facility inside the car but a well equipped camping cooking set like used for tent camping. This needs to be stored in the bench used for downstairs sleeping.
The fridge is a top opening fridge and sits on top of one of those additional tanks with only inches spare above meaning that there is a need to feel ones way around the fridge rather than being able to look inside it. The fridge also sucks more energy than the roof solar panel can provide so we were advised to switch the fridge off over night. I forgot that and ended up with the fridge beeping at 2 am.
Overall there is little storage space as the outdoor table and chairs are also loosely stored on the bench doubling up as a bed and in our case a bike which I had asked about and been informed that there was plenty of space for a bike in the back. There is no bike rack. We did a lot of shifting things in and out of the car under the side awnings which are a plus.
For me this ride is not worth the money charged. If you are not tall, travel solo or in a couple and bring little stuff and spend your days off road Silverbelle may come into its own.
